Cherry Ann Davis known as sliceofcherrypye is a Trinbagonian storyteller and creator based in Zurich. Currently, translating “Story as design and Design as story”.
It all began with an idea that the way we create and make in Trinidad and Tobago is as good as any and better than many. This led to thinking about the ways in which creativity within the global majority isn’t valued as Design but rather categorised into vernacular design and other terms that can be interpreted as subpar. However, these stories of creativity should be heard, explored and appreciated as design.
“Story as Design and Design as Story” helps navigate the intersections of the decolonial pluriverse, culture, postcoloniality, storytelling and memories, creolization and Sankofa.
It is time that we become conscious and truly accept we own. Just remember your own thing comes first and charity begins at home. We must show more love for the things we own. For their future is our concern.

I seek to amplify and centre stories which give voice to the Caribbean and African diasporic perspectives– representing and respecting the past, while also looking to the future to sustain stories through accessible formats. Her explorations often manifest as visual, written formats to share knowledges beyond the common and predominant narratives in design.
I am a decolonial-pan-African-hybrid ethnographic storytelling creator from the Caribbean twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago. With an early career in the Caribbean corporate world of advertising her work has now pivoted into exploring the world as a designer/artist. After my MA Thesis – WE [the many] Ting Self explored design education in Trinidad and Tobago and its need to expand its definitions and descriptions of visual communication design to include the way in which designers of the country create through Visual Creolization.
My practice combines research and artistic inquiry approaches to visual communication through an anti-racist, intersectional feminist and decolonial lens. I am plural in my existence and my work reflects this – whether creating with words, images or mixing some music to get my point across, I seek to provoke you to action beyond the thought that I infect you with.
